As we always say, you can teach someone the job, but you can’t teach them passion and enthusiasm. Thus, it is very important that when you apply for a job with a company, you actually want to work for the company, and you have a good reason why.
Have you ever had someone say really nice things about you? It probably made you feel pretty darn good. You may even like the sender of that message a little more. Well, companies like to hear good things about themselves too. But, companies can spot a fake from a mile away. So, ensure that you apply to companies that you genuinely would like to work for. To be able to articulate why you want to work for said company, go to their website and check out information about them. The About Us section is a great place to start. The About Us section often contains some history about the company, their mission, and their vision. Do some research to see if your values are in alignment. Also, think about their products or services. Are you already a user of their products or services? What do you like about them? For example, if you were a huge fan of David’s Tea, and your wall at home looked like their tea wall in the store, you obviously have similar values and can speak passionately about their product. The fact that you love tea is a great starting point to answer the question Why do you want to work for this company?
If you can find a way to speak highly about the company, demonstrate your passion for their products and/or services, and talk about how your values align, the employer will feel your passion and enthusiasm and you will have likely put yourself in the Yes pile!
